9 Day Trip Taiwan

Day 1:

Drive down scenic East Coast to Taroko Gorge; visit sites at Gorge; Marble shops. Check in at hotel in Hualien .Dumpling dinnner. Night Market and Jade market walking tour with aboriginal dance show.

Day 2 :

Drive to Taitung , visit Tropic Of Cancer, 3000 year old Monoliths, San Sian Tai Leapfrog Bridge and Gao Tai tea farms - tea ceremony! Check in at Hotel.Maybe night market visit Taitung City or visit Green Island : https://greenislandadventures.com

Day 3:

Drive further down scenic East Coast through aboriginal villages to Kenting National Park. Check in at Hotel on Big Bay 1 minute walk to the night market pubs and restaurants. Free time - beach in front of hotel and lots of restaurants nearby.

Day 4:

Tour Kenting National Park Southern Tip of Taiwan and lighthouse, drive to Kaohsiung County Hakka Meinong Parasol Village, then to Tainan . Check in at Hotel.

Day 5:

Tour Tainan old town Anping ( Old Dutch Forts , Kiln and Tait Trade House, Chihkan Tower and Taoist Temples;and Confucius Temple. Visit embriodery shops and old streets. Spend night in same hotel Tainan.Free time to explore the famous snacks of Tainan.

Day6:

Drive to Sun Moon Lake; Check in at B&B. Lake cruise.

Day 7:

Tour Sun Moon Lake area. Wen Wu Temple, Chung Tai Monastery , Puli Brewery/Distillery,

Day 8:

Drive to Lukang vist Old Market Street 2 of the oldest temples in Taiwan as well as lantern shops where artists handpaint lanterns. Drive to Taichung.Check in at hotel near Xitun. Famous Feng Jia Night Market Free time.

Day 9:

Visit SanYi Hakka Woodcarving Village in Miaoli County. Then drive to Shalu train station to return the vehicle.

5 Day Trip Taiwan

Day 1:

Depart from Taipei/Taichung; drive through Snow Mountain Tunnel to Ilan then along scenic SUHua Highway; QingShui Cliffs into Taroko Gorge. Stop at as scenic spots for photo opportunities on the way . Lunch in the Gorge. Check in at Hotel in Hualien- famous dumpling dinner and then visit Jade and marble market and aboriginal dance show..

Day 2 :

Drive through the East Rift valley, stop at organic coffee/tea stop at Tropic of Cancer monument and then over the coastal mountains to the scenic coastline and stop at San Sian Tai bridge;then visit Siao Ye liao beautiful rock formations on coast. Check in Taitung Hotel and then visit Night market.

Day 3:

Drive along scenic coast then over nr 9 mountain pass through Aboriginal area in the South along scenic route to Kenting.Visit famous aquarium outside Kenting on the way. This aquarium is world class and affords a rare opportunity to sea whale sharks in one of the largest tanks in the world. The whole aquarium is based on an old shipwreck theme with glass tunnels leading you through the massive displays. Check in at hotel Kenting

Day 4:

Visit Southern most point and light house outside Kenting then drive to Meinong ( paper parasols) and then Sun Moon Lake , visit Wen Wu Temple on the way and check in at hotel on the lake.Lake cruise. Free time - snacking & shopping in the little aboriginal artist village.

Day 5:

Drive to Puli ,visit the majestic Chung Tai Monastery. Puli Brewery/distillery . Then drive to TaichungHigh Speed Train stn where you can catch the HSR Train (Bullet train) to Taipei /airport etc.

Hit the road out to White Beach, get henna tattoos, drive up to the golf course in the mountains, marvel at all the coco nut plantations and the people in the small villages. A must if you go scuba diving in Sabang or just for a holiday in that area.

Tip: It is best to come to Taiwan from October to April for motorcycle trips.

                      Ideas for a 2 night 3 Day motorcycle trip - Central Taiwan:

Day 1: Meet in Taichung, Shalu train stn . Familiarize with bikes, then travel up along coast to Gao Mei Wetlands . Lunch at seafood market in Harbor. Afternoon visit Lukang historic little town and walk famous market street, taste some local eats. Check in at hotel- Free time to walk around Lukang

Day 2: Breakfast then ride to Chang Hua Big Buddha - Pakua Mountain area. then through valley to Puli and then Sun Moon Lake - Visit Wen Wu Temple, lake cruise , check in at hotel in Ita Thao village on lake. Free time to enjoy dinner and traditional tea ceremonies, snack on local foods etc.

Day 3: B/fast then ride to Puli - visit majestic Chung Tai Monastery and museum, then Puli winery and lunch at steakhouse. Afternoon ride back over route 136 , 99 Hills to Taichung City

This is a nice easy scenic road to ride with a few twists & turns. Road code is No 136 , starts in Taiping Taichung city and takes you to the No 14 where you can continue to Puli and Sun Moon Lake. A lot of fun for a day ride or stay over at Sun Moon Lake at a cheap BnB at Ita Tao village ( where the cable car/rope way is situated) and ride back to Taichung via the No 129 the next day. There are a lot of scenic spots along the way and even more tasty treats - fried mushrooms in Xinshe for instance.

 

 

 

Tip: A cruise on Sun Moon Lake costs only NT 200 or so and well worth the money.

Mae Hong Son Loop Northern Thailand

Welcome to my motorbike blog. Living in Asia has a host of benefits and one of them is being able to travel relatively cheaply. Traveling by motorbike is a great way to see the world and with a little planning and some common sense you can make it work cheaply. We rode the Mae Hong Son loop in March 2019 and it was good fun. I guess weather-wise  Feb would be best but we had good weather too in March. There are so many little places and towns to sleep over cheaply and lots of good itineraries on the internet. So below just a few pics to give you an idea.
